Kerry Katona's net worth, cocaine controversy and forgotten marriage to pop star (2024)

Kerry Katona has announced she will be moving abroad with her family. The former Atomic Kitten star revealed she has already started to look for properties in Marbella in Spain.

Kerry, who won I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2004, currently lives in Cheshire with fiance Ryan Mahoney, 32, as well as her children. But they will be leaving the UK in around 12 months, according to the former singer and Only Fans model.

Kerry wrote: “My mum will have a base here so whenever I come back that will be where we stay. I went to London for a work meeting last week and it’s a whole day of travelling. You can hop on a plane and be in Marbella in less time. So, that’s our plan. It’s exciting.”

Before she sets off for a new life in Spain, we take a look at Kerry's life in the UK, including her net worth, past relationships and her current home.

Where does Kerry live now?

Kerry currently lives with beau Ryan and her kids in a mansion Alderley Edge in Chesire. But she does not own the impressive property.

She revealed she was renting it for £9,500 a month after a deal on another house fell through. The mansion Kerry is renting features a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and dressing room, and also has four double bedrooms and three bathrooms.

There is also an indoor cinema and games room.

Terrifying robberies

One of the reasons behind Kerry's decision to leave the UK is a string of terrifying robberies at her home. She said she has been left feeling unsafe.

Kerry's car was stolen while she was with her kids. The thieves made off with the plush motor in December - while it was full of Christmas presents.

"I tried to run after the car but I had Heidi and DJ with me. They were crying, screaming, it was awful," Kerry later admitted. "Heidi is still traumatised and I'm so shaken up. I can't believe how everything fell apart like that."

Her partner's car was later pinched off their driveway by crooks. She said: “I still don’t feel safe in my house after having two cars stolen – one of which was taken off our drive! My anxiety is at an all-time high. The whole situation has affected me.”

It isn't the first time Kerry has been targeted by crooks. In 2007, Kerry and her then husband Mark Croft and their young daughter Heidi were held hostage at their £1.5 million home in Wilmslow, Cheshire. Three men forcibly entered their home, one of them holding Katona at knife-point while the others forced Croft to show them where valuables were kept.

Cocaine career controversy

Kerry became a familiar face on TV screens again with her endorsem*nt deals for Iceland and Asda supermarkets. But in August 2009, Iceland dropped Katona from her £290,000 contract.

The company stated that it was "impossible" to continue featuring Katona in its advertising campaigns after photographs appeared in the News of the World tabloid appearing to show her taking drugs. The photos allegedly showed her taking cocaine in the bathroom of her home.

Kerry later admitted that she has almost died twice due to the binges she would go on.

Mental health issues

Like her mother Sue before her, Katona was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2005. She has been campaigning to increase awareness of mental health problems since.

Kerry is also dyslexic and has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Marriage to pop star

Katona has five children from three marriages. She married former Westlife singer Brian McFadden in 2002. They have two daughters - Molly-Marie and Lilly-Sue - together.

McFadden filed for divorce from Katona in September 2004 and was separated for two years, until their divorce was finalised in December 2006.

The moment their marriage came to an abrupt halt was during a tense phone call in which Brian reportedly admitted he didn't love Kerry anymore.

In 2007 Kerry married taxi driver Mark Croft. They also share two children, Heidi Elizabeth and Maxwell Mark. Kerry then married former rugby league player George Kay in 2014. They have one daughter, Dylan, Jorge.

Kay had mental health issues and died in 2019 after an overdose.

Kerry's net worth after bankruptcy

Kerry became a millionaire overnight following the success of Atomic Kitten and marriage to Brian McFadden. However, Kerry was first declared bankrupt in 2008 after she "trusted the wrong people".

Back then she had failed to pay £82,000 of a £417,000 tax bill, losing her £1.25million home in Wilmslow in the process. She filed for bankruptcy once more in 2013 at her local office in Wigan. It is reported her legal woes didn't stop there and that she filed for bankruptcy again in 2018.

Kerry is reportedly now a millionaire again though thanks to her profitable Only Fans career. It is believed she is worth $2 million dollars, or around £1.5m, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com.
